Táin Bó Cuailnge: an animated version of the classic Irish tale.
Táin Bó Cuailnge: leagan beochaine den seanscéal Gaeilge.
Táin Bó Cualinge is an ambitious animated rendering of one of Ireland’s most important epic tales, based on Darach Ó Scolaí’s approach to the original Irish language text, alongside the animation skills of John McCloskey, the multiple award-winning author and illustrator / artistic director of the project respectively.
The focus of this version of The Táin is the relationship between Queen Méabh of Connaught, and her consort, King Ailill, and the far reaching consequences of what appears to be a domestic squabble over their relative position in life, but is in reality a power-charged exploration of the position of a female monarch in ancient Ireland, an exploration that offers a contemporary take on an ancient tale.
Táin Bó Cuailnge is a 26′ animation produced for TG4 and the BBC with the support of the Irish Language Broadcast Fund, Coimisiún na Meán and the BFI tax credit.
Is léiriú beochaine uaillmhianach ar cheann de na scéalta eipiciúil is tábhachtaí in Éirinn é Táin Bó Cualinge, bunaithe ar chur chuige Dharach Ó Scolaí i dtaca leis an bhuntéacs Gaeilge de, in éineacht le scileanna beochana John McCloskey, údar agus maisitheoir/stiúrthóir ealaíne an tionscadail.
Is é fócas an leagain seo de An Táin an gaol idir an Bhanríon Méabh as Connacht, agus a comhghleacaí, an Rí Ailill, agus na hiarmhairtí fadréimseacha a bhaineann le easaontú ar a stadús coibhneasta sa saol, ach atá i ndáiríre ina iniúchadh geár ar áit an monarc ban in Éirinn siar, iniúchadh a thugann léargas comhaimseartha ar an scéal ársa seo.
Is beochan 26’ é Táin Bó Cuailnge á léirithe do TG4 agus don BBC le tacaíocht ón gCiste Craoltóireachta Gaeilge, Coimisiún na Meán agus le creidmheas cánach an BFI.
